Successful completion of the workshop in Paros under “PEARLS” project

We are happy to announce the successful organization and completion of the “school” with the participation of Mayor Markos Kovaios and Deputy Mayor Mike Leontis at the start of the work that took place in Parikia, Paros, within the framework of the European project PEARLS, in which engineers and sociologists from the University participate of Seville, the University of Trento and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and from companies from Greece and Portugal – more in the Good to know program | Pearls Project. The project studies facility planning, siting in an environmentally friendly way taking into account the natural and cultural wealth for the installation of renewable energy sources and social acceptance in Mediterranean countries, studying wind farms, offshore wind farms & solar farms. The project is coordinated by Prof. MARIA JOSE PRADOS VELASCO (University of Seville) and Paros is among the study areas.

The Mayor of Paros referred to the awareness of the municipality and the inhabitants of the island on RES issues, he developed the actions for the use of RES in the two installed desalination plants, the actions for the use of solar panels in schools to improve the unit price and the reduction of municipal taxes for the citizens, he described the issues of the existing aging wind farm that was installed without proper zoning and applauded the actions of the government and relevant ministries on offshore wind farms, pending the new zoning and marine spatial planning studies. He also mentioned the electric car program and the planning to provide electric charging throughout the island.
